Our Founder

Monica E. Unseld, Ph.D, MPH

Dr. Unseld began her biology studies in undergraduate years at Xavier University, OH, where she also minored in history.

Dr. Unseld received her doctorate in biology, specializing in endocrine disruption and environmental signaling, in 2008 from the University of Louisville.

She received a Master’s in Public Health from Benedictine University in Chicago in 2018.

She began her environmental justice work in 2009 and still works with those community partners, along with new partners made over the years.

She was trained in the Jemez Principles for Democratic Organizing and believes in community leadership and partnership. The goal of Until Justice Data Partners (UJDP) is to be servants that the community groups we work with promote us to “partners.” Community lived experience must be considered valid evidence and community validation is necessary to create and deploy effective societal interventions.

She founded UJDP in response to community research requests during the social uprisings of 2020.

She continues this work with the support of her mother and in the legacy of her late father.
